A 34-year-old man has been arrested after driving the wrong way down a motorway.

Traffic cameras captured him in the early hours of yesterday (7 Oct).

He had his hazard lights flashing as he sped along the empty road.

Luckily, no cars were coming at the time.

But footage shows he made no attempt to stop or turn around during the bizarre late-night stunt.

The driver was on the A-7 near Málaga heading towards Cádiz, even though his side of the motorway was meant for traffic going the opposite way to Almería.

Officers swooped in, arresting him on the outskirts of Alhaurín de la Torre, south-west of Málaga, at 4:36 am, around eight minutes after the violation was caught on camera, as reported by Need To Know.

The Spanish Directorate-General for Traffic dubbed him a “kamikaze driver” – but cops were left baffled when he tested negative for both alcohol and drugs.

Authorities are now investigating what caused him to take such a dangerous wrong turn.

They have not revealed his identity, but Alhaurín de la Torre is known to be popular with British expats.

In 2019, Brits made up 1.58% of the local population, the second-largest group after Spaniards.

One viewer joked, “Kamikaze at that speed? With the indicators on? Not sure about that.”

It comes after an 81-year-old man was arrested in August for driving the wrong way on four motorways in one day around Madrid, forcing other drivers off the road and causing minor injuries.
