An Olympic champion has been found dead in his home in mysterious circumstances.

Miklos Dudas, a gold medallist who competed at the London Olympics in 2012, died at the age of 34.

The former world champion kayaker was found lifeless in his apartment in the Hungarian capital Budapest last Monday (5 Jan).

The police initially stated that there was no sign of foul play or criminal activity.

But new information now suggests others may have been involved in the sprint canoeist’s death.

During an autopsy, experts identified injuries that could lead to criminal proceedings.

In addition, a worker at the athlete’s residence saw him bleeding on the stairwell two days before his death.

Blood was coming out of his head and he appeared disorientated, the man said.

When he asked Miklos about the injury, he simply replied that he had fallen over, and closed the door.

The police have reportedly summoned the worker to testify.

As a result, the authorities are currently investigating a case of bodily harm resulting in death, according to local reports.

Miklos took part in the London Olympics in 2012, finishing sixth in the K-1 200m, as reported by Need To Know.

He won gold at the 2014 World Championships in Russia as part of the K-1 4x200m relay team.

Miklos also won bronze medals at the World Championships, as well as various European medals.

He was stripped of a gold medal that he won in the K-1 200m event at the 2015 European Games after traces of a banned hormone were found to have been in his body.

He was handed a 36-month ban from competing, eventually retiring from top-level sport in 2021.

Miklos leaves behind two children, daughter Nara and son Milo.

He had been with his partner, model Ivett Szigligeti, since 2015.

The investigation into his death is ongoing.
