A burglar has been jailed after police officers found him eating a sandwich in the kitchen of a flat he had broken into.

A video, posted yesterday (3 Mar), showing the bizarre incident has been viewed 747,000 times and had 3,100 likes.

Officers attended the property after the couple living there reported a trespasser.

They came face-to-face with the culprit Costin Stan on their upstairs landing of the flat on Gregory Boulevard, in Hyson Green, Nottingham.

He asked for food and denied that he had broken into the flat in order to steal.

Officers later arrived and found Stan sitting in the kitchen eating a sandwich.

They then discovered missing jewellery stuffed in his pockets.

Officers later discovered he had broken into another flat, on Norton Street, in Radford, 10 days earlier, as reported by Need To Know.

The homeowners discovered that their flat had been ransacked while they slept.

A host of items were missing, including mobile phones, hair straighteners, wallets and clothing.

Stan’s fingerprints were found on items when forensic investigators attended the scene.

The 33-year-old, of HMP Moorland, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary.

On 25 February, he was jailed for two years and eight months at Nottingham Crown Court.

The incident happened last year, on 23 November.

Investigator Bethany Harding, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “The victims in both these burglaries were at home when Stan broke into their property in order to steal.

“The unusual nature of his arrest should not take away from the seriousness of his offending.

“Burglary is an invasive crime which can have a lasting and profound impact on any victim.

“Officers worked hard to ensure he had no choice but to admit both these offences and I’m pleased he has now been handed a custodial sentence.”

Viewers of the video were amused.

One person said: “At least let him finish! Maybe get him some crisps?”

Another added: “What’s the charge for eating a sumptuous cheese and ham sandwich how dare you get your hands of him.”

Someone else joked: “I would’ve said ran-snacked, but ransacked is alright.”
