A trio of cops have been praised as heroes after saving a man from a cardiac arrest by administering CPR and using a defibrillator.

PCs Abbie Ellison, Sophie North and Kasia Siergiejew sprung into action while on a routine patrol.

Members of the public were left panicking after a man on a mobility scooter, who appeared to have a medical episode, collided with a parked vehicle.

The man, in his 50s, was left unconscious and suffering from a cardiac arrest – with PCs Ellison and North leaping out of their car to help.

The pair immediately began administering CPR and set up a defibrillator to help resuscitate him on Hankinson Way, Salford, as reported by NeedToKnow.

PC North alerted other patrols on the radio for assistance and to make North West Ambulance Service aware of the medical emergency.

Greater Manchester Police colleague PC Siergiejew, who was responding to another job, stopped at the scene to assist until paramedics arrived.

Thanks to the quick-thinking cops the man survived and has been confirmed to have been discharged from hospital days after the incident.

PC Ellison said: “To know this male is still alive and able to continue with his day-to-day life due to the lifesaving support he was given is exactly the reason I became a police officer; to be able to make a difference and help people in critical times.”

PC North said: “I have been a response officer for three years and this incident marked the first time I had ever been flagged down to assist someone requiring CPR.

“A few weeks later, the man attended Pendleton Police Station with his carer to collect his mobility scooter.

“During that visit, he shook my hand and thanked me for saving his life. It was a truly full-circle moment.”

PC Siergiejew said: “I felt so much relief when the paramedic advised us that there was a pulse again for this male.

“Within the four years of being a police officer I have never given CPR to someone that has recovered, and that made me proud of my colleagues and myself.”
