A prolific shoplifter has been spotted brazenly lighting up a cigarette after an intense police chase.

Despite attempting to flee from cops, Jordan Robson cut the chase short after his urge for a smoke overcame his bid for freedom.

The 32-year-old, who had bagged over £1,000 worth of items from 11 separate thefts, tried to lose officers by jumping over bushes.

The pursuit came to an end when the shoplifter decided to stop for a cigarette break – where officers quickly cuffed him.

Between November and April, Robson targeted seven different stores – including snatching £300 worth of meat from Sainsbury’s, Bridgend, in Wales, as reported by Need To Know.

During the arrest, he casually told officers to grab his hat, which had fell off during the pursuit, while attempting to smoke his cigarette.

His hauls also included snatched boxsets and chocolates – targeting shops such as Lidl, Tesco and Co-Op.

£210 worth of boxsets were taken from Firestorm Games, items valued at £200 were stolen by Robson from Co-Op, Parc Derwen.

£140 worth of items from One Stop in Brackla, £87 worth of items from Lidl in Tondu and £51 worth of items from Tesco in Bridgend.

Robson, from Bridgend, was also charged with multiple thefts from cars in the Rushfield and Springfield Gardens area.

On 14 Apr, he appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court, where he was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison.

The sentence followed the shoplifter pleading guilty to 11 counts of theft and one count of theft from a motor vehicle.

The arrest was made following an investigation by the local neighbourhood policing team.

Daniel Perry, Bridgend Neighbourhood Police Sergeant, said: “Robson targeted stores and cars across Bridgend for months and thanks to a thorough investigation run by our neighbourhood policing team will now serve time in jail.

“Businesses in our community deserve to be able to trade without worrying about theft.
