Dramatic footage shows the moment a person trapped in quicksand was rescued just as the incoming tide threatened to engulf them.
The casualty had become stuck in the sand at Rhyl beach in Denbighshire, North Wales, as the sea rapidly closed in.
By the time lifeboat crews reached the scene at around 9pm on Friday (29 May) the rising water had already reached the person’s waist.

Rhyl RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was launched within minutes and arrived just in time to carry out the rescue.
Crew members brought the lifeboat alongside the casualty before entering the water to help free them.
The person was fitted with a lifejacket and carefully supported onto their back, allowing their feet to be released from the quicksand.
They were then taken aboard the lifeboat and brought back to the station, where they were checked over and helped to warm up, as reported by Need To Know.
An RNLI Rhyl spokesperson said: “The inshore lifeboat was launched within minutes.
“Once arrived on scene, the crew found the casualty to be trapped in the sand with the incoming tide now around their waist.”
Dougie Lonsdale, helm during the rescue, added: “Conditions on the coast can change in seconds, with tides and quicksand being serious and often invisible hazards.
“In this instance the casualty did everything correctly by calling 999 and asking for the Coastguard and staying calm.”
