An optician has been dubbed an “idiot” by friends and family after hilariously ordering the wrong sizes of household items – on three separate occasions.
Gemma Bramley, 39, from Nottingham, failed to read the description of the items she was ordering online, which has left her with a miniature rug, doormat and mismatched handles in her home.
The mum-of-one, who works full-time helping people to read and see better as a contact lens optician, says she has been mocked repeatedly for her shopping habits.
She first went to order a replacement handle for her hallway cupboard after the old one fell off two years ago, but despite measuring the handle, Gemma was too click-happy and glazed over the listing details.
Next, she ordered a replacement doormat – but again failed to read the small print and ended up with just the bristle centre, which can hardly fit under her 43-year-old partner Ant’s feet.
And just the other week, Gemma ordered what she thought was a large white fluffy rug for her 10-year-old daughter but again was dealt a blow when she opened up the “flannel-sized” order.
Despite being the wrong sizes, Gemma decided to keep all the items as they still managed to do the job.
“All my friends and family think I’m an idiot for doing it so many times,” Gemma told Jam Press.
“The thing is, I measured the door handle exactly before going online so I thought I was buying the perfect replacement.
“When it arrived it was massive but I was determined to use it.
“My partner put it on for me and put it on wonky so the cupboard was super irritating.
“Next we ordered a doormat, not realising that the part we ordered was just the central bit, not it as a whole.
“It was very problematic for my partner as he has massive feet and I made him wipe them on the tiny matt whenever he came in.
“Then it all happened once again when my daughter wanted to buy a rug with her Christmas money and sent me over the Amazon link.
“Turns out neither of us read the listing properly and thought the one we were buying was what was photographed.
“We were a bit worried when a very small parcel arrived, and when we opened it, it was like a flannel.
“I’ve kept them all even if they are all on the small side.
“I’ve learnt to love them all as they have character.
“I’ve paid for it so I’m using it, even if I suffer.”
Gemma uploaded photos of her three failed orders to Facebook which has so far racked up 921 likes.
The caption read: “I have a terrible habit of ordering things online without checking their size.
“Well, my offspring just ordered herself a rug and looks like she has the same affliction.”
Social media users found the funny side to Gemma’s habit of ordering the wrong sizes.
One Facebook user said: “I do stuff like this all the time. I can’t measure to save my life.”
A second person added: “The door handle made me laugh,” followed by laughing emojis.
“I shouldn’t laugh but this is exactly what I do to,” said another user.
Another viewer said: “That doormat is killing me!”.
Someone else added: “Too funny.”
