Ryan Mcateer, a 25-year-old entrepreneur, unfolded his journey from job struggles to a thriving luxury car business. “I had sold cars since I was 19, but kept getting sacked as I would not come in, or I’d be late – I just really wasn’t dedicated,” shared Mcateer. At 19, he sold his first car but faced job instability due to dedication issues.
Joining a prestige car company at 22, he innovatively decided to focus on finding the customer before the car. This strategic shift led him to establish his own business, where he now associates with prominent figures, generating an impressive monthly turnover of £100,000.
Reflecting on his earlier challenges, Mcateer stated, “That was until I started working at a business selling prestige cars at the age of 22.”
Mcateer noticed a flaw in traditional dealerships‘ approaches, where unsold cars incurred significant costs. He conceived the idea of prioritizing the customer first, revolutionizing his business model.
“Most car dealerships stock used cars for months on end and they use loans which cost money in order to buy stock,” he explained. This innovative approach allowed him to break free from the conventional methods and build a successful venture.
“I must have worked at circa 15 car sales garages prior to the prestige garage, and I had a really good understanding of what works and what doesn’t,” expressed Ryan Mcateer.
Always a top performer, he emphasized the importance of understanding customers’ needs. “The best way to be able to give them exactly what they want is to understand them, qualify them correctly, meet all their demands and needs, and then deliver.”
At the age of 22, Ryan took a bold step by opening Rockstar Car Finance. His approach involved finding customers through Instagram, ensuring a tailored car selection for each client. Reflecting on the initial challenges, he recalled, “One day, I walked into work, collected my things and simply left because I knew I could do this by myself.”
Despite having no funds, only a phone full of customers, and lacking a driving license, he persisted.
“The ironic thing about it was, I didn’t even have a driving license at the time. So I went round every dealership I could, for five days, begging someone to let me work from their premises and start Rockstar Car Finance,” he explained. After persistent efforts, a dealership in Manchester allowed him to work, enabling him to sell cars and accumulate enough funds to establish an office in Liverpool.
Now, after three successful years, Ryan Mcateer boasts two offices and a thriving business, selling high-end cars and generating over £100,000 a month. Reflecting on the journey, he shared, “I soon started to get enquiries from celebrities due to my good reviews, so I knew this would be brilliant for the business.”
He highlighted a turning point, saying, “At one point, I sold a £200,000 Lamborghini Urus, so I was starting to get noticed by more and more celebrity clients.”
The clientele expanded to include stars such as Real Housewives’ Rachel Lugo, Celebs Go Dating’s Nadia Essex, Love Island’s Hannah Elizabeth, and TOWIE’s Clelia, Chloe Ross, and Chloe Brockett, along with numerous influencers.
Mcateer’s success stems from his commitment to providing the best deals, service, and cars. He expressed his passion for the dynamic nature of his work, citing an example, “I love it because every single day is different, for example, an influencer is currently buying a new Porsche from me, but she wants it wrapped in pink chrome, and her wish is our command.”
