The duel to the death took place in the rural area of Magueyes located southeast of Monterrey in Mexico.
Juan was with a 20-year-old worker when the pair was attacked by the puma.
They went to look for some missing cows that failed to return to the farm after grazing in a nearby field.
They came across one cow that had apparently been devoured by a big cat and went to remove its hide.
However, they didn’t realise the puma was still lurking nearby.
The big cat pounced on the pair, taking them by surprise.
Juan was able to subdue the animal between his legs and body while Eliud de la Rosa Juárez, 20, ran back to the farm to ask for help.
Luckily, Civil Protection officers were able to make it to the scene in a matter of minutes.
They came across Juan on the ground with the defeated puma.
The brave farmer is currently being treated in hospital for his multiple bites and lacerations.
Eliud also required hospital treatment for injuries caused by the big cat.
According to reports, Juan has become a local celebrity in his hometown following his epic duel with the puma.
