The Germans have struck first ahead of the Euros by claiming they drink more TEA than the English.
They allege that folk in just one area of their country drink 300 litres per capita a year.
That works out at about 1,980 brews per year based on a standard 150ml cup.
That equates to 5.4 cups of tea – a quintessentially English beverage – per day.

Officials say it makes the people in East Frisia in Lower Saxony the biggest tea consumers in the world.

The Germans claim in England people drink on 200 litres – or 1,320 cups – at a rate of 3.6 a day.
The figures have come from the Records Institute in Germany, as reported by Need To Know.
The German Embassy in London stated: “People in East Frisia on Germany’s North Sea coast drink more tea per capita than anyone in the world.
“Tea time is a ritual in Ostfriesland and it’s considered rude to drink anything less than three cups.”
It has sparked anger among tea-lovers in this county.
Especially because folks in the German region also have their own take on the traditional cuppa.
The East Frisian tea recipe includes sugar, tea, cream and is usually served unstirred.
It comes as Gareth Southgate prepares to try and lead the Three Lions to glory in Euro 2024 next month in Germany.
