If you want to sell your house quickly and for the best possible price then it all comes down to first impressions. Does your house have the kerb appeal it needs to attract potential buyers ready to make asking price offers or is the first thing viewers see a weedy front yard and a stack of recycling bins?
In this article we’ll look at some simple ways to makeover your front garden so that the next time somebody comes to view your home, they’ll fall in love with it at first sight.

Lay a simple lawn
One of the easiest things to do with a small front garden is to lay a very simple lawn. This can often look more welcoming than a patio or gravel as people like to see the fresh green colour and it shows that there’s life and vibrancy in your home. If you want to incorporate simple flower beds then you can, but go for low-maintenance plants as some people might be put off by the idea of having to look after a complicated garden.
If you do have a lawned front garden, make sure you’re up to scratch on your lawn care. Ensure your lawn is cut nicely and that all of the edges are neat and well-trimmed. Make sure it doesn’t have any dandelions or other weeds.
Go for a small patio instead
If you don’t fancy the idea of turf and think that having to cut the grass could be off-putting, then there’s always the option of laying a good quality patio or gravelling the space. The important thing if you want to sell a house fast though is to make sure you bring some colour to the space with a good mix of tubs and patio plants.
These are easy to look after and mobile too so it’s easy to switch up the look of the garden whenever you want to. Hanging baskets are also great for a quick and easy splash of colour.
Think about garden furniture
Most people assume that garden chairs are just for the back garden, but if your front garden doesn’t overlook a main road then there’s no reason why you can’t add a couple of Sloane & Sons wooden garden chairs and a small table, or maybe a garden bench against the front wall.
If you don’t want to go as far as seating, smaller pieces of furniture like a bird bath or a small water feature could make a nice focal point and add some interest to buyers.
Paint your front door
Now your garden is looking good, don’t neglect the front door. Think about it – when people come to view your home and knock the door, they’ll have a good few seconds of staring at it up close, so it’s important that it looks clean, fresh and welcoming.
If you have a glass or PVC door, give it a thorough clean, including the frames. Don’t forget to check the inside of the frames when the door is open too. If you have a wooden or painted door then you could give it a fresh coat of paint in a bright and cheerful colour. Interestingly, houses with red painted front doors have been shown to command higher selling prices than homes with different coloured doors!
