This film continues the story of the BBC series created by Steven Knight, which aired for six seasons from 2013 to 2022. Tom Harper, who directed the first season, will return to helm the movie.
Murphy expressed his enthusiasm about reuniting with Knight and Harper, calling the project “very gratifying” and a treat for fans. Alongside starring, Murphy will also co-produce the film.
Steven Knight shared his excitement, promising that the movie would be “an explosive chapter” in the Peaky Blinders saga, describing it as “no holds barred” and “full-on Peaky Blinders at war.”
The original series chronicled the rise of the Shelby family, a notorious gang navigating the turbulent streets of post-World War I Birmingham. The upcoming film will push the storyline into the Second World War, with production slated to begin in Birmingham in September.

Murphy’s portrayal of Tommy Shelby significantly boosted his career, following notable roles in films like The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and 28 Days Later. Recently, he garnered widespread acclaim for his performance as J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s 2023 biopic “Oppenheimer,” earning him an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and a Screen Actors Guild award.
