A politician has been stripped of her mandate for allegedly spending public campaign finances on a cosmetic makeover.
Sílvia Waiãpi is accused of splashing £1,300 on ‘facial harmonisation’ in a bid to achieve her ideal proportions.
The 48-year-old belongs to the Liberal Party, whose honorary president is former Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro.

Waiãp denies the accusations but the Regional Electoral Court of Amapá, Brazil, ruled there was enough evidence to strip her of her mandate.
She announced on Thursday (20 Jun) that she will appeal her deposition to the Superior Electoral Court.
The Electoral Prosecutor says the cosmetic procedure was carried out over several sessions at a dental clinic in Macapá.
The dental surgeon who allegedly carried out the procedure has testified in court, as reported on Need To Know.
The first session allegedly took place on 29 August 2022 – the same day Waiãpi received funds from the Special Campaign Financing Fund.
It was her campaign coordinator, Maete Mastop, who filed the complaint with the Electoral Prosecutor.
Before going into politics, she played Crocoká – a comic character with bad teeth – in the telenovela Uga Uga.
In 2011, she became the first indigenous woman to join the Brazilian Armed Forces.
From 2018 to 2022, she served as Indigenous Health Secretariat in the federal government.
And in 2023, she came under the microscope for posting social media content glorifying the storming of Brazil’s Congress.
