An alleged thief was stopped trying to steal wine from Marks and Spencer before security guards gave his bag for life back.
The elderly man – wearing a cream T-shirt and jogging bottoms – was collared at the checkouts.
Two guards – in yellow hi-viz – and another employee looked inside his reusable Tesco bag.
One pulled out two small bottles of white wine and confiscated them.
A guard then said: “Take the bag.”
The suspected shoplifter then walked out of the M&S Simply Food store at Victoria railway station, Terminus Place, central London.
The guard then said: “He’ll come back.”
It happened yesterday (9 Jul), as reported on NeedTo Know.
Locals mocked the policy in Marks and Spencer – famed for its ‘Not just any’ ad campaign.
Tony O’Connor joked: “Only in M&S.”
Raul quipped: “Good to see him give him his bag back so he can go somewhere else to steal his wine.”
Another said: “Just letting them walk out now is mad.
“Security guard, easiest gig ever.”
A fourth added: “And they just let the man walk off.”
But one said: “At least he isn’t smashing the store up unlike most thieves in London.”
Brian noted the ironic slogan on the Tesco bag and said: “Reuse.“Repeat.”
The Met Police and M&S have been approached for comment.
