A 51-year-old woman has died after a 10-hour cosmetic operation performed by a “celebrity” plastic surgeon.
Maria Leonice Passos de Melo began to feel unwell in the recovery room.
She “experienced adverse reactions” and died at around 8am on Saturday (17 Aug), according to reports.

The day before (16 Aug), Maria had spent 10 hours in the operating theatre getting a three-in-one cosmetic op.
She was taken to the recovery room at around 1am on Saturday after getting liposuction, breast augmentation and a tummy tuck.
One of her surgeons, Dr Antônio Márcio Nunes Alves, says the op was successful and complication-free.
He claims De Melo was struck down by a “sudden illness”.
His lawyer, Getúlio Souza, says her blood pressure and heart rate were monitored during the post-op period.
Souza also says no comorbidities were found during pre-surgery tests.
The op was performed at a private clinic in Marabá, Brazil, as reported by Need To Know.
It involved two plastic surgeons, an anaesthetist, a scrub nurse and a nursing assistant.
Police are now investigating the team for possible negligence.
Maria was laid to rest in Parauapebas on Tuesday (20 Aug).
The post-mortem results will be ready within 30 days.
Dr Alves boasts shy of 50,000 followers across his two Instagram accounts.
He and his team will be interviewed by the police.
