CCTV footage shows how members of a criminal faction led two sisters away to be killed “over an accidental gang sign”.

The clip shows how aspiring councillor Rayane Alves Porto and social media star Rithiele Alves Porto were marched towards a car.

The sisters, their brother, and Rithiele’s boyfriend were driven to a hideout, where they were tortured with a bladed weapon.

The latter managed to escape the house on Friday (13 Sept) night by jumping over a wall.

He alerted the authorities immediately.

He led police officers to the hideout in Porto Esperidião, west of Brasilia, Brazil, where the sisters were found dead with signs of extreme violence.

Their hair had been cut off and some of their fingers had been amputated.

Their brother was found bloodied but alive.

His left ear and one of his fingers had been amputated. He also had stab wounds to the back of his neck.

The motive for the bloodbath is under investigation, but the police are still working with the theory that it was triggered by a photo.

The snap in question, which was shared on social media, shows the sisters making hand gestures at the Jauru River.

It’s believed the apparently innocent gestures coincidentally represented a number associated with a rival criminal faction.

An uncle, who chose to remain anonymous, told local media: “What they said about the gesture isn’t true.

“The girls had no connection to that criminal faction. They didn’t drink, smoke, or use drugs.

“They were incredibly responsible, mature young women, with great integrity and wonderful souls.”

The sisters’ brother is in hospital in a stable condition, according to his family.

Ten people were arrested shortly after the crime, but one was later released due to lack of evidence.

On Sunday (15 Sept), a further suspect was arrested.

Yesterday (16 Sep), the authorities placed the suspected mastermind into solitary confinement.

He had spent about three hours on a video call with the perpetrators from a prison in Cuiabá, according to police chief Higo Rafael.

An inquiry is underway to determine how he managed to direct the torture session from jail on a mobile phone.

The sisters had moved to Porto Esperidião about two years ago to be closer to their maternal granddad in nearby Glória D’Oeste.

They were laid to rest in Glória D’Oeste on Sunday (15 Sept), as reported by Need To Know.

Rayane worked as a make-up artist and Rithiele was a law student. They were both Christians.

Rayane had stood as a candidate for the local council in local elections this year with the Republicans.

The party is known for its strong links with the evangelical Universal Church of the Kingdom of God.

Their uncle said: “They were truly loved. Rayane was involved in a church group that was very well-regarded by the community.

“They invited her to run for office, and she agreed to do so. It was her first time in politics, but unfortunately, we’ve had to deal with this tragedy.”
