They exchanged a few heated words before one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shot her at close range at around 11am on Saturday (28 Sept)
The suspects fled the scene immediately after the alleged shooting.
The emergency services arrived on the scene in Curridabat, Costa Rica, but the victim had already passed away.
The authorities closed the road and gathered evidence until around 2pm when the victim’s body was removed.
A police spokesperson said: “The victim was on a public road, apparently about to take a bus, when two men arrived on a motorbike.
“She apparently argued with them and one of the suspects shot her before fleeing the scene.”
The motive for the alleged murder is currently unclear.
The authorities suspect it could have been a revenge attack as none of the victim’s belongings had been stolen.
Castillo was a well-known Instagram model with nearly 15,000 followers, as reported by Need To Know.
She leaves behind two children, an eight-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son.
A relative said: “She was an incredible mother, everything she did was to give her children a better future and not depend on anyone.
“She wanted to get ahead on her own and give the best to her kids.
“I believe that’s what she always did, she gave them the best of herself.”
The investigation into Castillo’s death is ongoing.
