Cable cars were left swaying in a -15C storm leaving tourists stranded.

They were stuck inside for almost an hour in the sub-zero conditions.

After being rescued at the ski resort, some even said they had become so cold that their body went numb, and started to cramp up.

Such cool temperatures even made some of them feel dizzy, and they were rushed to hospital for treatment.

As well as the cold, tourists also faced high winds, and the air was misted with fog.

In a clip shared online, the cable cars can all be seen dangling in the air, high up over snowy mountains.

One trapped tourist stated that it was around 2.50pm when the carriages suddenly stopped moving, as reported by Need To Know.

She stated that the ski-lift was restarted at around 3.35pm.

They attempted to call the snow field customer service number, and the cable car rescue number numerous times, but the lines were busy.

People only arrived on the scene to rescue them after calls were made to the emergency number and fire rescue service.

It happened on Tuesday (Nov 26) at the Taiwu Ski Resort in Chongli District, Zhangjiakou City, in China.

Staff of the Chongli District Culture and Sports Bureau responded that a machine failure was the cause of the carriages breaking down.

They also pointed out that the rescuers arrived at the scene as soon as possible, and no one had frostbite or died.

The staff also said that although the temperature was low that day, it was not a big issue because the tourists involved wore ski clothes and quick-drying clothes.

As they had no problem skiing in the snow for two to three hours, staff said that they felt they could withstand the temperature below zero degrees.

The staff also mentioned that after evacuating the passengers, they were settled in a restaurant on the mountain to warm up.

Information of the trapped passengers was registered, and each person was given a full-day snow ticket worth 600 yuan (65.36 gbp) as compensation.
