In a video, the man films himself on the volcano and shows the presents on the ground.
He appears to get emotional in the clip, which is almost one minute long.
It is thought that he was excited to have climbed the volcano, but also scared considering the fact that it is still active.
The man climbed the Popocatépetl, located about 45 miles southeast of Mexico City on 12 March.
According to geological data, the volcano, which is nicknamed Don Goyo, turns 730,000 years old this year, as reported by Need To Know.
This date marks a tradition that had roots in the pre-Hispanic era, with people supposedly making offerings to the volcano in return for favours.
In addition, legend tells that many years ago a villager met an old man on the slopes of the volcano on 12 March.
The man introduced himself as Gregorio Chino Popocatépetl, and claimed that he could predict when the volcano would erupt.
Every year on this date, locals bring flowers and food to the volcano to celebrate Gregorio.
The man who climbed it, who is originally from San Pedro Yancuitlalpan, in Puebla, Mexico, took things a little far.
People bearing gifts must respect the permitted perimeter of seven miles.
The man did not comply with this rule, thus risking his life by climbing further up the Popocatépetl.
