A teen driver has been caught speeding whilst going the wrong way around a roundabout with no lights on.
The 17-year-old hit hair-raising speeds of up to 70mph whilst driving in a 30mph zone.
The foolish driver also had no lights on whilst cruising late at night in the darkness.
Traffic cops who attempted to stop the teenager also witnessed him go the wrong way around a roundabout after failing to stop.
The 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was driving a silver Volkswagen Golf recklessly.
Police pursued the driver through Peterborough city centre, Westwood, Netherton, Longthorpe, and Bretton, before stopping in Mayor’s Walk, West Town.
The pursuit took place at around 8pm with the driver failing to stop until a second police car stopped him in his tracks.
The Cambridgeshire Police officers chasing the silver VW attempted to initially stop him after witnessing him stop two car lengths away from traffic lights in Bourges Boulevard with no reason to.
The driver appeared at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on 5 March, as reported by Need To Know.
The youngster was handed a 12-month driving disqualification and a nine-month youth referral order for the offences on 1 February.
The 17-year-old admitted to dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence – due to him being a provisional licence holder.
Pc Freddie Tomalin, from the force’s road policing unit, said: “The disregard he had for the other drivers on the road was blatant, with him reaching speeds of up to 70mph, driving without his lights on and going the wrong way round a roundabout.
“His actions could have had serious consequences, and it is extremely fortunate that no one was hurt.”
