Waiting to be seen, he looked very uncomfortable and had begun to dribble.
He grasped his girlfriend’s arm and tried to remove her hand with no luck.
To solve the problem, hospital staff played soothing music to calm him down and prevent him from choking or vomiting and then used a special mouth opener to expand his jaw enough to inject a muscle relaxant, as reported by Need To Know.
The woman said: “It felt like my hand was stuck in a meat grinder.”
She became extremely concerned for her boyfriend when his face turned red while she tried to remove her hand.
As she tried to pull it from his mouth, he drooled continuously and his throat made a strange gargling noise.
Things soon became painful for her after her boyfriend’s teeth started to clamp down on her wrist due to muscle spasms.
At the time, they were trying to see if her hand was small enough to fit inside his mouth in what was supposed to be a funny video for social media.
Dr Zhang Mingyan helped remedy the situation at the hospital in Jilin, China, where he worked.
He explained the reason her hand got stuck was because the boyfriend’s jaw muscles had contracted and clamped down on it.
He managed to remove it by gently rotating the woman’s wrist.
The removal took around 20 minutes and the man did not suffer any serious injuries.
Dr Zhang Mingyan has warned others against trying the trick, advising that forcing a person’s jaw open can cause nerve damage or the dislocation of the jaw.
