The rescuers spent hours digging it out.
It happened on Jackdaw Hill, near Horton in Ribblesdale, North Yorkshire.
A spokesperson for Cave Rescue Organisation said: “The team were called by North Yorkshire Police to assist a local farmer with a sheep trapped in a small pothole.

“A small team met the farmer at the location to be confronted with a large sheep that was firmly wedged in a narrow shaft.
“After two hours of digging away soil and boulders sufficient space was created for the animal to wriggle backwards then with combined tactics the sheep was lifted and hauled to the surface.

“It was a small space so the focus was on making space for the ewe to be able to get out.
“It was reunited with the farmer, apparently none the worse for the ordeal.”

The operation lasted around two hours, as reported by Need To Know.
Locals found it funny.

Christine Purchas said: “Well done, ewe all.”
Glen McKiernan added: “Baaaarilliant rescue.”

And Roy Evans said: “Congrat-ewe-lations on a successful resc-ewe.”
