The group had set off from Edale, Peak District, Derbyshire, on the first day of their Gold Qualifier.
The qualifier is a minimum four-day and three-night journey which sees kids take on the Grindsbrook route – a popular scramble for hikers.
Following protocol, Buxton Mountain Rescue was called to the scene, along with a DofE coordinator.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team also joined the mission.
A carry out was considered, but due to the location, the team decided to call the Maritime Coastguard Agency Rescue and airlift the youngster out.
The injured member was safely airlifted from the scene on Monday (18 Aug), as reported by Need To Know.
A spokesperson for Buxton Mountain Rescue said: “When the teams arrived, the casualty was handed over to a Remote Rescue Medical Technician.

“Due to the location, the carry-out would have been extremely long, so it was decided to call Maritime and Coastguard Agency Rescue 912 for assistance.
“Once overhead, the winch paramedic transferred the casualty onto the S92.
“We’d like to offer our thanks to the DofE coordinator and especially the DofE group, who followed the emergency procedures and, while keeping calm, looked after their teammate until help arrived.
“Well done.”
