A motorway driver filmed wandering across lanes has been banned after he was found to have been four times over the legal booze limit.

Vincent Lime, who admitted his guilt in court on Monday (5 Jan), was caught swerving between lanes and nearly colliding with other cars.

It was later revealed Lime had to attempt a roadside breath test eight times as he was so intoxicated.

Police received calls from different members of the public reporting Lime’s driving on the M4 eastbound, near junction 14.

Officers waited at Membury Services, Wilts before spotting Lime swerving between lanes and other traffic while changing speed sporadically.

They stopped Lime and pulled him over to the roadside where he failed a breath test, giving a reading of 148mg – more than four times over the legal limit (35mg).

The 36-year-old, first reported at 3pm on 6 December, was arrested and later charged with driving without a licence and drink driving.

He has now been disqualified from driving for 30 months, as reported by Need To Know.

Police Constable Davis of Wilts Police said: “Lime’s manner of driving caused three members of the public travelling on the M4 at the same time to call 999 to report their serious concerns about the danger he posed to them and others.

“He was witnessed swerving across lanes, almost colliding at speed with other vehicles.

“Thankfully, officers managed to safely bring the vehicle to a stop.

“Lime was so intoxicated, it took him eight attempts to provide a roadside breath test.

“This was a busy Saturday afternoon in December – the roads were understandably busy and I am actually amazed that he didn’t cause a serious collision.”

On Monday, Lime of Corringham in Thurrock, Essex, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court where he pleaded guilty to the charges.

On top of his disqualification, Lime must pay £85 Crown Prosecution Service costs and a £114 surcharge.
