The incident took place at Happy Land Amusement Park in Manikkal, in India’s Kerala state, yesterday (28 May).
Five people, including three adults and two teenagers, were injured.
They were identified in reports as Manorathi, 54, Seemani, 49, Malini, 49, Shyam Daniel, 14, and 16-year-old Rose.
All were visiting from Nagercoil, in Tamil Nadu state, as reported by Need To Know.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene and rushed the injured to nearby hospitals.
One woman, whose injuries were serious, was later transferred to a larger facility in Thiruvananthapuram for specialist treatment.
The other four are reported to be stable, though some sustained fractures.
Preliminary findings suggest that failures in the welding joints and supporting iron structure caused parts of the ride to suddenly give way.
The ongoing investigation will examine whether the ride had undergone mandatory maintenance inspections and safety certification checks.
Authorities said action would be taken against the park’s management if negligence or safety violations are found.
Local media reported the tragedy could have been far worse, as the park was crowded with children at the time due to school holidays.
The park remained closed at the time of writing.
