Mariela Janeth Ruiz Gavilán had travelled to Lima, Peru, to undergo pre-operative tests, which reportedly returned favourable results.
According to her cousin Luz Mery Méndez, who accompanied her, Mariela entered the private clinic’s operating theatre at around 10am on Wednesday (14 Jan).
She died approximately two hours into the procedure.

A post-mortem examination determined that Mariela died from an acute pulmonary vascular obstruction.
Her family say this has raised serious concerns about possible medical negligence, as reported by Need To Know.
Following news of her death, the doctor who performed the operation deactivated his social media accounts.
Mariela’s relatives have formally requested that the relevant authorities investigate the case.
They also claim the clinic failed to provide clear or timely information during the critical moments leading up to her death.

Mariela was a stylist and businesswoman, as well as the owner of two spas in her hometown of Huancayo, Peru.
Orphaned at the age of five, she was raised by her aunts and uncles.
Undeterred by her early hardships, she launched her first business in the beauty sector in 2017.
She has since been laid to rest in Huancayo.
