A monster pothole shaped like a giant’s foot has left Brits fuming – saying the state of the road is leaving residents “in danger”.
Miranda Fyfe has been keeping tabs on the worsening condition for months – with one pothole so big she can “lie down” in it.
The huge 7ft-long and 3ft-wide chasm is one of a series of deep depressions blighting the same road, monitored by campaigners for months.

They say the A1301 through Great Shelford, about four miles south of Cambridge, resembles a “war zone”.
“One pothole, which I first noticed in late October when it was only dinner-plate size, has now grown to be big enough for me to lie down in,” Miranda said.

“The holes are so big that residents are put in danger and they’re also incurring very unwelcome unplanned costs.”
Another local said: “This road and cycle lane are a busy commuter path and as a resident of this road I am continually observing cars and lorries swerving to avoid pot holes.”
Someone else added: “The road looks like a road that you would see in a war zone and it is shocking that it has been in this state for so long”.
Another person said: “Whole road surface needs redoing from the crossroads down into Shelford!”
Miranda has started a petition about the issue, which is racking up signatures quickly, as reported by Need To Know.

She said: “The road state poses an issue to all users.
“Drivers frequently experience vehicle damage, typically punctures.
“Cyclists, given the lack of a segregated cycle lane along the entire road, face danger, needing to swerve potholes, veering out into traffic.
“Potholes that cyclists are unable to avoid can cause a fall with significant injury.
“In the worst-affected areas, they may choose to mount the pedestrian pavement out of necessity, which poses a hazard to those on the pathway.
“Additionally, potholes which are deep enough to pose a hazard to cyclists may not be sufficiently wide/deep to warrant ’emergency’ repair, which prolongs the period that damage can be done.
“How much longer must we put up with the ever-worsening and dangerous condition of this road?”
The petition has been signed by 540 people in just six days.
A Cambridgeshire County Council spokesperson said: “Work to resurface a section of the A1301 is due to commence in April and finish in early May.

“Funding for this project was approved in March 2025.
“Since then, we are aware that additional stretches of the road have deteriorated which are not covered by the approved budget and that this is causing concern.
“The road is regularly inspected, and we are continuing to repair potholes as they are identified.
“The 26-27 highways maintenance investment programme will be considered by the council’s highways and transport committee in March 2026.
“If more funding is allocated to extend the A1301 works, we will try to carry this out at the same time as the existing project, subject to securing any relevant approvals.”
