Dramatic dash-cam footage captured the rocky hillside disintegrating without warning, sending rocks and debris hurtling toward the red truck.
One enormous boulder smashed into the truck’s side, sending it flipping into a parking area amid a cloud of dust.
Several parked vehicles near an auto repair shop were also crushed, while nearby residential buildings sustained structural damage.
The rockfall took place in Fengcheng Town near Hechi City in southern China at around 6.30pm on Tuesday (28 Apr).
The area lies in a region known for karst topography, which can be particularly susceptible to geological hazards following prolonged periods of rainfall.
Local resident Mr. Wei said the falling rocks were so powerful they struck the ground floor of his home, exposing steel reinforcements in the door beams.
The impact even snapped structural support columns in neighbouring residential buildings.
The Fengshan County Emergency Management Bureau confirmed that two victims were rushed to hospital for emergency treatment.
They said in a statement: “Due to heavy rainfall, at around 6.30pm on 28 April, a mountain body along the Donghuan Road section in Fengcheng Town, Fengshan County, suddenly experienced a rockfall, resulting in two injuries.”
Medical officials have stated that both casualties are currently in a stable condition and their injuries are not life-threatening.
Emergency crews remained on the scene throughout the night to assist victims and assess the extent of the damage.
The authorities said 44 households and 130 people were evacuated as a precaution, as reported by Need To Know.
Geological experts are expected to conduct a full survey of the mountain to determine if further rockfalls appear likely as the region continues to battle seasonal storms.
