A blogger has reportedly been sentenced to death for “insulting Iran’s supreme leader” after sharing a chilling final Instagram post.

Marzieh “Sevda” Ebrahimi Shamsabadi is being held in Bandar Abbas Prison following her arrest earlier this year.

The Iranian blogger, reported to be 33, was convicted by Branch 3 of the Bandar Abbas Revolutionary Court, according to information obtained by Iran International.

Before she was detained, she left a chilling final message for her roughly 10,000 Instagram followers, as reported by Need To Know.

She wrote: “If one day I leave this world, just know one thing – I chose the path I believed in.”

The message appeared against a black background alongside images of a white dove and red rose.

Her accompanying caption also reportedly suggested that she was prepared to die in her opposition to the authorities.

The Human Rights Activists News Agency, known as HRANA, said Ms Ebrahimi Shamsabadi was sentenced to death for “corruption on earth”.

Her case reportedly involved allegations that she insulted the supreme leader and carried out media and propaganda activity against national security.

She was also accused of conducting intelligence and security activity on behalf of “hostile governments”.

Another allegation concerned a photograph she allegedly took from a distance of a site struck by a missile.

Authorities claimed she sent the image to a Persian-language media organisation based outside Iran.

In addition to the death penalty, Ms Ebrahimi Shamsabadi was reportedly handed prison terms of between two and five years.

The court also ordered the confiscation of her property and barred her from accessing some government and public services.

Her lawyer was notified of the death sentence on 23 August, according to Iran International.

The judgment was reportedly delivered by Judge Khajeh-Hassani.

The Instagram message was posted on 23 February and was the last publication on her account before her detention.

Ms Ebrahimi Shamsabadi was allegedly kept in solitary confinement for 20 days and subjected to severe pressure during questioning.

Shamsabadi is said to have been born in Arak, raised in Tehran and later lived in Bandar Abbas.

It was also reported that she has suffered from multiple sclerosis for approximately six years.

She is additionally said to have psoriasis, narcolepsy and gastric colic.

A source familiar with her condition told HRANA that her health had deteriorated in prison, raising concerns because of her multiple illnesses.

The sentence comes amid mounting international concern over Iran’s use of capital punishment against protesters and political detainees.

Iran Human Rights said at least 29 people detained in connection with protests in January had been executed since March.

The US-based Abdorrahman Boroumand Center said it had documented 950 executions in Iran during 2026 by late August.

The organisation said those executed included at least 20 women and 30 protesters.
