Residents who had complained about an “unpleasant smell” have been left horrified after a demolition crew found human remains in an abandoned garage.
Excavators reportedly unearthed remains and pieces of clothing that had been buried under rubble and soil in a gruesome discovery on Monday (2 November).
Fears have been raised that the body could belong to missing mum-of-two, Karolina Wróbel, 24, who vanished almost two years ago.

One local resident told local media the stench was so putrid she would hold her nose as she passed the building.
She said: “I have walked past here many times. There was a very unpleasant, intense smell. It was so bad it made you choke and you had to cover your nose.”

Forensics teams have reportedly confirmed the remains belong to a woman, but are unsure of her age, adding she could possibly be older than the missing mum, as reported by Need To Know.
The site of the discovery is around one mile from the location where Karolina vanished on 3 January, 2025, while out buying bread rolls for her two sons at ul. Narutowicza 4, Czechowice-Dziedzice, southern Poland.
On hearing about the discovery, Karolina’s dad, Piotr, raced to the scene, but police are said to have ordered him to stay behind the cordon.
He said: “Every day I wonder where she is, what happened to her and whether I will ever know the truth.”

He added: “As a father, I cannot stop believing that my daughter may still be alive.”
The sole suspect in her disappearance is former roommate, Patryk B, who has been charged with murder, but released from custody under police supervision and a travel ban.
The stench had previously been blamed on an animal food factory nearby.
The foul odour had raised enough concern in the local community that 500 signed a petition four years ago demanding action.

The council ordered the illegal structure be knocked down after receiving reports of homeless people staying there.
The head of a specialist diving team who had been involved in the search said he believed they could be the mum’s remains.
Maciej Rokus’ team previously searched nearby rivers and ponds but found no trace of the 24-year-old.
He said: “We searched a huge area indicated in the suspect’s statements. We carried out even more operations than originally planned.

“We searched bodies of water in Czechowice-Dziedzice, the Białka river and the Vistula, as well as the areas around gravel pits. We found neither a body nor any objects that could be connected with Karolina Wróbel.”
He added: “There is a high degree of probability that the remains found could belong to the missing woman.”
Police have stressed the identity of the remains are still under investigation and that DNA results are expected in the coming days.
