A 25-year-old student died from an electric shock when he leant on a food truck at a music festival.

João Vinícius Ferreira Simões received a massive electric shock when he touched the truck’s bodywork on Saturday (9 Mar) night.

It had been raining heavily and the PE student was soaking wet.

Onsite medics promptly gave him CPR.

He was taken to hospital, but medics could only pronounce him dead on arrival in the early hours of Sunday (10 Mar).

They gave his cause of death as cardiac arrest.

João was from Maricá, Brazil, but had travelled to Rio de Janeiro for the music festival.

He was mad about his favourite football team, Flamengo.

He will be laid to rest in Maricá this afternoon (11 Mar).

His mum Roberta Isaac Ferreira said: “Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine this could happen to me.

“He went out just to have fun, and I was always worried, ready to go pick him up.”

The authorities are investigating the case.

The event organisers have stated that they’re collaborating with the authorities.
