Professional horse rider Georgie Campbell, aged 36, tragically died following a fall during a competition at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon.

The accident occurred earlier this afternoon when she fell at a log jump into water.

Despite the immediate response from medical staff on-site, she was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.

British Eventing, the sport’s governing body, released a statement on Sunday expressing their deepest regret over Georgie’s fatal accident. They reported that medical professionals attended to her immediately after her fall at fence 5b, but were unable to save her.

Her horse, Global Quest, was examined by on-site veterinarians and walked back to the stable uninjured.

In their statement, British Eventing emphasized respecting the family’s privacy during this difficult time, refraining from sharing further details.

Georgie Campbell, originally from Kent, had an illustrious eventing career, which blossomed from her early days as a top-level showing rider. As a teenager, she was shortlisted for the British Junior Team and made her five-star debut in 2009.

Throughout her career, she competed in over 200 events, achieving six significant victories, including wins at prestigious five-star events like Badminton and Burghley.

Additionally, she made multiple appearances for Team GB in Nations Cup competitions.

Georgie was participating in the CCI4*-S race on the cross-country course when she fell. The Bicton International Horse Trials, a four-day event, had commenced on Thursday.

Georgie is survived by her husband, Jesse Campbell, also a professional horse rider originally from New Zealand. The couple married in December 2020. The eventing community mourns the loss of a talented and dedicated rider whose impact on the sport will be remembered by many.
