A Poundland worker armed with a broom and a security guard have been hailed for standing up to a man accused of shoplifting.

A baby could be heard crying in the background as the tot’s mum was one of the other shocked customers forced to watch on.

The man’s shirt was ripped in the melee.

The suspect was apprehended by two members of staff and the guard near the chilled food.

The one holding the brush said: “Get out of the shop.

“Get out of the shop.”

The man then said: “What do you want, please?

He replied: “Get out.”

“Take out the stuff from your pockets.

“Take it out.

“Then you are banned.”

The alleged thief then said: “Get out of my way.

“Stop touching me bruv.”

He shoved the guard who then forced him back.

The worker with the broom then raised it over his head.”

The two workers and the guard then grappled with the man in the aisle.

Products were knocked off the shelves and were left strewn on the floor.

The baby could then be heard crying in the background.

The man’s T-shirt was ripped and he got another out of his backpack near the entrance.

The guard then said: “Shame on you.”

The suspected crook then said: “What have I taken?”

The security man replied: “Take out the thing, what’s been in your bag.”

But the man said: “F*cking idiot.

“You said the first time and I paid.

“Shut up then innit.”

It happened at the branch of Poundland, High Street North, East Ham, East London on Friday (28 Feb).

Locals were shocked at the ugly scenes but praised the store staff, as reported on Need To Know.

Adrian Lindley said: “Brave little lads.”

Mike Pannett fumed: “Scum.”

Another added: “The guy with the broom is taking it personally.”

Ash said: “Boss man needs a promotion, he’s not even security.

A fifth said: “Give security stun guns, think twice then.”

A Poundland spokesperson said: “We’re aware of the video and are looking at precisely what happened in East Ham.

“Poundland doesn’t tolerate abusive behaviour towards its colleagues who face difficulties like these daily.

“That’s why we recently announced our ‘enough is enough’ campaign to crack down on shop theft and abuse.”

The Met Police have been approached for comment.
