A baker was killed by a stray bullet just six months after arriving in the US in search of a better life.
Gabriel Alejandro Golindano Álvarez died while lying in bed next to his wife in their flat.
It was around 2am when Joanna Ceballos was woken up suddenly by the sound of gunfire.

She told local media: “I got scared.
“I started calling out to him because whenever something happened, he was always the first to get up.
“But this time, he didn’t respond. I tried to move him. He was already covered in blood.”
Gabriel had arrived in Dallas, Texas, six months earlier from Maturín, Venezuela.

He had found work as a baker’s assistant at a supermarket chain, as reported by Need To Know.
Reports say the gunmen were targeting a flat on the ground floor.
However, one bullet hit Gabriel in the flat above in the early hours of Thursday (8 May).
Gabriel and Joanna had been together for 12 years and previously lived in Monagas, Venezuela.
They were in the middle of their asylum process and had a court hearing scheduled for next year.

Joanna said: “Our dream was simple: to have our own things, a better future, to be able to live in peace.
“All (Gabriel) did was work and come home. He was really committed. And above all, he was so good to me. So loving.

“People always said there was drug activity nearby, but we never got involved with anyone. We kept to ourselves.
“We never thought a bullet could reach us in our bed.”
Gabriel’s mother, Nerys Ceballos, said from Venezuela: “My son didn’t deserve to die like this. He just wanted to work, help his family, and move forward.”
The police have not named any suspects or reported any arrests.
