Man Utd and Tottenham fans have been dealt a soggy blow ahead of the Europa League final after UEFA banned umbrellas.

Supporters from both clubs travelling to Bilbao, Spain, will need to brace themselves for some un-Spanish weather.

It is forecast to rain all next week on, and either side of Wednesday’s (21 May) showpiece.

Approximately, 32,000 Red Devils and Spurs fans will be in the 52,289-capacity stadium.

Unfortunately, they will be without their trusty umbrellas as the staple item has been banned from the hosting stadium.

The picturesque seaside city of Bilbao will be hosting this season’s Europa League final.

The Estadio de San Mamés, home of semi-finalists, Athletic Bilbao, who Manchester United beat 7-1 over two legs, will be the venue for the match.

Fans will be hoping to take the sunny weather with them as the capital of the Basque country is due for a very damp week.

From 3pm on the day of the final (21 May), the city will be subject to a heavy downpour of rain that will continue into the early hours of the following day.

Supporters will be forced to ditch their trusted brolly when entering the ground as UEFA publish a list of banned items, as reported by Need To Know.

United are selling a £38 brolly on its official website with a Spurs one costing £27.

Any fans travelling to the match in their branded backpacks bought at their respective club shops may also have to leave them behind.

UEFA rules state that any bag over the size of an A4 sheet of paper is not permitted to enter the ground.

A popular item in Manchester United’s club shop is the £28 ‘Classic 3 Bars Backpack’, which would be too big to bring in.

Tottenham Hotspur also flog a similar sized item in the form of the £37 ‘Navy Heritage Backpack’.

Both bags exceed the size limits and would not be allowed inside the stadium.

UEFA rules state: “Umbrellas (of any kind) and professional cameras are not permitted inside the stadium.

“Bags larger than A4 size won’t be allowed in the stadium.

“Even if you are a regular visitor to the stadium, keep in mind that it may operate differently for the UEFA Europa League final 2025 and rules may be different from what you are used to.”

Ex-Man United manager, Steve McLaren, was famously, cruelly branded a ‘Wally with a brolly’ in 2007.

The then-England boss stood on the touchline at Wembley with an umbrella as the Three Lions failed to qualify for the 2008 Euros after a loss to Croatia.
