A former World Cup footballer has been arrested over alleged child sex offences.
Omar Bravo, who represented Mexico at the 2006 tournament in Germany.
The 44-year-old former striker scored twice in their opening World Cup match against Iran.

He was detained on Sunday (5 Oct) and has been formally indicted, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Jalisco State.
Officials say Bravo was arrested for his “alleged responsibility in the crime of aggravated child sexual abuse.”
And he accused of “allegedly abusing a teenager on several occasions in recent months”, as reported by Need To Know.

Authorities added they suspect there may be similar cases from the past, and confirmed the investigation is ongoing.
Bravo spent most of his career at C.D. Guadalajara in Mexico’s top division, Liga MX, scoring 132 goals across three spells.
He won the league title in 2006, the Copa MX in 2015, and the Supercopa MX in 2016.
He also had stints with Deportivo La Coruña in Spain’s La Liga and later played in the US for North Carolina FC and Phoenix Rising before retiring in 2020.
Bravo – capped 66 times for his nation – was detained in Zapopan, north west of Mexico City.
