Two adorable puppies who were dumped in a cardboard box and left for dead are now looking for loving forever homes.

The Golden Retriever siblings, named Hope and Chance, were discovered along with a third puppy, who tragically didn’t make it.

They all had severe facial injuries.

Vets believe the tiny pups were attacked by another animal, before being abandoned by a breeder for being “unsellable.”

The helpless trio were found when they were just six weeks old, but luckily a kind-hearted member of the public spotted the box and took them straight to safety.

Only two survived but the remaining sibling’s resilience has stunned everyone who’s met them.

The pair were taken in by Blue Cross in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, as reported by Need To Know.

Now two months old, Hope and Chance are bundles of joy – playful, affectionate, and full of spirit despite their tragic start in life.

They’ve been spending time in a foster home with a retired couple, but are now ready to find their forever families.

Joe Cummins, Assistant Manager at the centre, said: “They were found by a member of the public along with their littermate covered with sawdust in a box, and taken straight to the local vets.

“All had facial disfigurements. Sadly, the third puppy didn’t survive due to the severity of their injuries.

“The vet suspects they were attacked by another animal and subsequently abandoned by the breeder as they were considered unsellable. But we’ll never know for sure.

“We haven’t seen anything like this before, so it was a shock for everyone. And at that age as well – they’re so small.”

Joe said staff were initially worried the pups might struggle emotionally after such trauma.

He said: “We were also really concerned about how much damage and trauma they had suffered – we weren’t sure if they were going to turn out to be typical puppies with normal behaviour.

“To see them playing and seemingly really spirited has been lovely after what was quite an emotional shock for the team.

“It’s amazing how resilient they are.”

Joe added that both pups have big personalities and are already showing their own quirks.

He said: “They’re both very characterful in their own ways.

“They have lovely traits, but are very different.

“Hope is very spirited and adventurous, and I can see her being quite curious in nature in a new home.

“I can imagine her making a nice companion for someone who needs that boost of motivation and morale on those cold winter mornings. She’ll inspire you to get up and seize the day.

“I would describe Chance as a gentle observer at the moment – he just takes everything in very peacefully.

“In time, he’s only going to build more confidence.

“But I can imagine him in a home with someone who’s very relaxed, who will promote a sense of general sereneness and tranquillity.

“Not setting a pace themselves but allowing Chance to do this and engage with things as and when he chooses.”

Despite everything they’ve been through, Hope and Chance are now living up to their names – ready to bring joy, comfort and a little bit of puppy love to their next lucky owners.
