A pregnant lizard was “brutally” attacked by a dog and sadly died –leaving behind 20 children – at Steve Irwin’s conservation.

The blue-tongued reptile was severely injured from the ordeal.

Although veterinarians moved quickly to save the expectant mum, their efforts were unsuccessful.

Luckily, they were able to deliver her young, with all 20 babies pulling through, reports Need To Know.

A clip of the baby lizards being calmed and revived has racked up 800,000 views and over 35,000 likes.

“Each newborn needed immediate revival, and our team worked tirelessly to clear their airways, stimulate their breathing, and give them warmth and the support they needed to survive,” Wildlife Warriors Worldwide said.

“We are incredibly grateful to share that all 20 babies pulled through and are doing well.

“Sadly, despite every effort, their mother did not survive her injuries.”

The charity is a non-profit that was set up in 2002 by famed Australian zookeeper Steve Irwin, and his wife, Terri.

It was founded to conserve both wildlife and the environments they live in.

Today, Bindi Irwin – the couple’s daughter – is the CEO, with their son and recent Dancing With The Stars winner, Robert Irwin advocating for the charity.

Users have flocked to the comments to share their reactions.

One person said: “Sorry to hear about momma but thank you for saving her babies.”
