A goalkeeper convicted of having his ex-lover murdered and fed to dogs is set to play in “Brazil’s FA Cup” – and says he plans to enter politics once he hangs up his boots.
Bruno Fernandes was registered in the Brazilian FA’s Daily Information Bulletin on Wednesday (18 Feb).
The 41-year-old, who is currently on parole, will compete in the Copa do Brasil – the country’s equivalent of the FA Cup.

His side, Vasco de Rio Branco, host Velo Clube in the first round later today (19 Feb).
Bruno, who only joined the club earlier this week, is expected to be named in the starting XI.
Vasco de Rio Branco competes in the Campeonato Acreano, the top tier of football in Acre state.
The side will be without midfielders Brian and Manga, and forwards Lekinho and Erick Serpa, who were arrested last week after being implicated in a rape allegation.
Bruno recently told local media that once he retires and completes his sentence – which runs until 8 January 2031 – he intends to run for office.
He plans to launch his political career by standing for city councillor in his hometown of Ribeirão das Neves.
He said he has received invitations from several parties but has yet to decide which to join, as reported by Need To Know.
One thing is certain, he insisted: “There’s no way I won’t be right-wing.”
Bruno was convicted on 8 March 2013 over the murder of Eliza Samúdio, the mother of his son, Bruno Samúdio de Souza.
Her body was never found.
Prosecutors said she was strangled, dismembered and parts of her body were fed to dogs, with the remainder allegedly buried under concrete.
Bruno – then 25 – handed himself in nearly a month after she disappeared but denied involvement.
Investigators said a teenage cousin had testified that he took part in her kidnapping and killing.
