Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death following the procedure in Cúcuta, Colombia.
Juan Carlos Avilán, the family’s lawyer, said the Colombian National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences confirmed its headquarters in Cúcuta experienced problems with freezers used to store bodies.
And officials had obtained a court order allowing Rodríguez León and numerous other dead people to be buried to avoid a public health crisis.

Rodríguez – from Ponce, Puerto Rico – was subsequently buried at Central Cemetery in Cúcuta, as reported by Need To Know.
His family must now wait for the official identification process to be completed before the body can be exhumed and repatriated.
The Puerto Rico Department of State said it will support the family throughout the process.
The plastic surgeon who carried out the procedure remains under investigation.
