According to reports, fellow victims Estuardo Trujillo Ajavix, 30, and Gerson David Barrera Ajavix, 21, returned to their parked car to find it had been broken into.
They confronted a man for his alleged involvement in the car break-in.
Following a row, the suspect allegedly took out a gun and opened fire, killing both men just a few metres from the US Embassy.
A stray bullet also hit Diana in the chest in front of her shocked daughters.
The eldest girl told her grandmother that Diana saved her life by pushing her out of the way and taking the bullet instead.
The hero mother-of-five was four months pregnant at the time of her passing.
The emergency services arrived on the scene, but could only confirm the victims’ deaths and tried to console the two young witnesses.
Officers placed the suspect under arrest and seized his 9mm caliber pistol.
The suspect was able to show that he had a license for the firearm.
He reportedly admitted to firing the shots because he was “attacked” by the two men and said that he regretted Diana’s death.
The investigation into the shooting continues.
