Onlookers scream in shock as bodies are seen strewn across the ground.
Among the trio who died was an 11-year-old child.
The other two victims were aged 41 and 22.
Twelve people were also hospitalised with injuries.
The race was organised as part of the patron saint celebrations in Epazoyucan, northeast of Mexico City, on Sunday (5 May).
According to local reports, the responsible driver abandoned his truck after the accident and fled the scene.
The authorities seized the vehicle and launched a search for the driver, as reported by Need to Know.
Investigators also discovered that the organisers did not have the necessary permits to stage such an event and failed to provide suitable safety measures for spectators.
The council has yet to release a statement on the matter.
The police probe continues.
