Video footage has shown how Carriacou, the tiny island, just north of Grenada, has borne much of the brunt of the storm so far.
Houses have been flattened, trees ripped out of the ground and power lines broken and lying along the roads strewn with debris.
Locals can be heard screaming in fear as the life-threatening storm continues to batter everything in its wake.
The timing and strength of the hurricane has taken experts by surprise as reported on Need To Know.
The hurricane season runs from the start of June to the end of November, but this is the first time a storm of this strength has hit this part of the world so early.
Beryl is expected to hit Jamaica at 7pm UK time today, where the population was preparing for the worst.
A curfew has been imposed and many living in areas prone to flooding have been advised to seek shelter elsewhere.
