Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer expressed hope that football was “coming home” after England’s semi-final win in Euro 2024.
During an Oval Office meeting, US President Joe Biden asked if football was coming home, to which Starmer replied, “It looks like it.” Biden humorously credited the Prime Minister for the success.
Starmer, attending NATO’s 75th anniversary summit in Washington, plans to gift Biden a personalized Arsenal shirt. The gift aims to strengthen the “special relationship” between the UK and US.

Addressing domestic issues, Starmer defended his proposed age limit of 80 for the House of Lords, focusing on reducing its size, not age discrimination.
During their discussions, Starmer and Biden covered topics such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Middle East tensions.
Starmer highlighted the importance of defense spending to protect against global threats. A new strategic review will address these challenges and reinforce NATO commitments.
