Soares is accused of kidnapping the baby from the Clinical Hospital of Uberlândia, located south of the Brazilian capital Brasília.
The alleged offence happened on Tuesday (23 Jul).
The following day, the newborn girl was later found at the suspect’s clinic in the municipality of Itumbiara 85 miles away.
In addition, cops found a baby chair, a stroller, milk formula, nappies and similar items in the suspect’s car.
At the clinic, the police found more clothes, nappies, a baby bath, and an inflatable children’s pool.
According to investigators, Soares arrived at the hospital at 11.23pm claiming she was covering the shift of an absent doctor.
After arriving, she allegedly told the baby’s mother that she was going to feed her daughter from a bottle due to her initial breastfeeding problems.
After a long delay, the father went to check on them and realised they were no longer in the hospital, as reported by Need To Know.
A hospital spokesperson said: “At around midnight, a woman dressed as a health professional, carrying a University badge, entered the maternity ward and escaped with a newborn female baby.”
Soares has been charged with kidnapping as the investigation continues.
On her Instagram profile, she states that she has worked as a professor at Goiás State University for five years.
In March this year, the neurologist announced that she was approved as a professor at the Federal University of Uberlândia (Medicine-UFU).
According to her posts, she also has a 16-year-old son.
Her lawyer Vladimir Rezende explained that she has been undergoing counselling for several months due to her mother’s death and is taking controlled medication.
In a statement, the Brazilian Hospital Services Company, which manages the hospital, said they have “begun an internal investigation into all the circumstances of the case and are collaborating with the investigation”.
They added: “The institution is at the complete disposal of the authorities and the family for a speedy resolution of the case.”
