A smartwatch saved a personal trainer’s life after it told him he was going into cardiac arrest.

Tyago Cursino, who had no pre-existing heart problems, woke up one morning to a pounding tension in his chest.

Despite feeling physically fatigued, he went to work as normal until, suddenly, an alert popped up on his watch which read ‘ Atrial Fibrillation – 99BPM’ for beats per minute.

At the same time, he received an electrocardiogram – a recording of the heart’s electrical activity – on his smartwatch-linked phone that showed irregularities.

“Not fully trusting the watch’s accuracy but feeling the symptoms, I took the ECG report and sent it right away to a cardiologist friend,” Tyago said.

“That’s when he advised me to seek emergency care immediately.”

The 32-year-old went straight to A&E in Palmas, north of Brasília, Brazil, where medics identified that he was experiencing the onset of cardiac arrest.

Tyago was sedated and underwent cardioversion, where his heart was given a controlled electric shock.

The procedure was successful and his heartbeat was restored to a normal rhythm, as reported by Need To Know.

He said: “I don’t have any pre-existing conditions. I don’t drink energy drinks or take pre-workout supplements.

“But that day I consumed a sauce made from natural ingredients rich in sodium, vinegar, lemon, parsley, and red onion, which caused a thermogenic reaction.”

Following the scare on 20 July, Mr Cursino has been even more careful with his health.

He said: “I felt like I was reborn. My heart started beating normally again, and I was discharged soon after.

“If it weren’t for the digital watch’s efficiency, its artificial intelligence, the immediate cardiac care, and the swift response of the entire hospital health team, I don’t know if I’d be here to tell this story.

“I never imagined that this device would alert me to a life-threatening risk I was facing.”
