Angry locals have tracked down a deadly shark and repeatedly walloped it over the head with a club for mauling a tourist’s leg.
Roberto Carlos Bu Mejía was left with gaping wounds on his torso and right leg after the shark attack yesterday (14 Oct).
The 38-year-old was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment while the authorities closed the beach.

It happened in the resort town of Tela, in Honduras.
According to reports, he became the first patient to ever be treated for a shark bite at the Hospital Tela Integrado.
Hospital director Sulmi Llegó said the man’s condition is stable and that he will soon be referred to the Hospital Mario Catarino Rivas in San Pedro Sula for reconstructive surgery.

The victim, who originally comes from Ocotepeque, was visiting the beach on holiday when the shark bit him in the ribs and then mauled his leg.

Fire department spokesperson Sergeant David Velásquez confirmed the victim was attacked by a shark after rumours circulated that it could have been a crocodile or large lizard.

Several locals then went out to sea in a boat to look for the suspected predator.
They hooked a shark in the water and reeled it in alongside their vessel.
One man then repeatedly whacked the animal’s head with a club.
In the footage, the fishermen are seen dangling bait in the water before hooking what they believe is the responsible shark.
They drag the animal to the surface and position it alongside their boat.
A man then repeatedly clubs the shark’s snout.
The predator struggles to swim away, but the man keeps it next to the boat and continues bludgeoning its head.
It’s unclear if the fishermen killed the shark.
In response, the mayor’s office of Tela issued a statement advising residents not to enter the sea looking for marine predators.
The National Police said they are constantly monitoring local beaches to ensure another attack does not happen.
As of today (15 Oct), the beach in Tela remains closed to the public, as reported by Need To Know.
