While she made it through the operation itself, she became unwell afterwards.
After going into the theatre on 12 November, by 15 November she was suffering from a fever, and nausea, and her skin had turned extremely pale.
The next day she was transported from the clinic to the Presbítero Alonso María Giraldo Hospital in San Rafael, Columbia, when doctors discovered that her intestine had been perforated.
Due to the damage, Xiomara, from San Rafael, had developed a serious infection.
She was sent to a specialist hospital in the city of Rionegro, also in Columbia.
Despite doctors’ efforts, Xiomara died on the morning of 17 November.
She died from severe peritonitis, a potentially fatal inflammation of the lining of the abdomen caused by intestinal perforation.
Authorities have started investigations and have already discovered that the beauty centre was allegedly only authorised to perform non-invasive procedures.
They did not have the necessary set-up for complex cosmetic surgeries, it is alleged, as reported by Need To Know.
Investigations into the beauty centre and the professional in charge of performing the intervention are ongoing.
The person in charge is said to have travelled from Medellín to San Rafael to perform invasive procedures, although the establishment lacks permits.
