The blast also injured two other people in Campana, near the Argentine capital Buenos Aires, yesterday morning (3 December).
The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
The toll booth is set up on the Pan-American Highway, which stretches across 14 countries in the Americas.
Following the smash, the victim’s Volkswagen Suran was found overturned in one of the lanes on the other side of the barrier.
At least three toll booths were damaged in the blast.
As a result, there were large tailbacks on the highway for several hours, as reported by Need To Know.
The emergency services arrived on the scene, but could only confirm the driver’s death.
It’s unclear why MartÃnez was travelling so fast at the time of the incident.
The fatal accident is under investigation.
