The vehicle hit the cop, dragging her along the road for several metres.
Meanwhile, the homeless man collected his bin bag of belongings and hurried away from the scene.
The emergency services arrived promptly at the Canal de San Juan bus station in the Mexican capital Mexico City to deal with the injured officer.
She reportedly suffered a head trauma after being struck by the bus on the morning of 30 November.
According to reports, the bus driver managed to brake in time and the cop’s head injury wasn’t too serious.
She was taken to the nearby Álvaro Obregón Hospital where she was discharged later the same day.
Mexico City Metrobús said they are in contact with the cop to keep up to date with her recovery.
The homeless suspect was arrested by the police and currently faces charges of attempted femicide.
A Metrobús spokesperson said: “The subject was arrested and presented before the Public Ministry where an investigation was opened for the crime of attempted femicide.”
